All officers must be current members of The Acacia Group.

As per our constitution, elections for new officers are held in May.

Officer duties are listed below. Often these duties overlap. Distribution of the duties can be determined at the current officers' discretion

President:

  • Early each semester, set up and publicize a calendar of events, such as meetings, programs and initiations. Fill appointed offices and set up committees.
  • Authorize all drafts of checks (with additional input from the treasurer and faculty advisor).
  • Delegate duties to officers and club members. Try to involve students and faculty with event planning and participation
  • Communicate your enthusiasm about The Acacia Group to other members, other students and to the faculty.
  • Be a liaison (or appoint a member to be a liaison) to other organizations on campus to the student government association, and to the faculty.
  • Update the group's "notebook"

    Vice President:

  • The main duty of the vice president is to assist and support the president in presiding over the club.
  • The vice-president may act as a liaison between faculty and The Acacia Group.
  • Communicate your enthusiasm about The Acacia Group to other members, other students and to the faculty.
  • Redistribute duties (and possibly take on more duties) if an officer position is vacant.
  • Attend as many meetings as possible.

    Secretary:

  • Maintain a calendar for the group.
  • Public relations: flyers, advertisements, etc.
  • Briefly transcribe meetings.
  • Attend as many meetings as possible.
  • Updates member list and contact information
  • Update/maintain our website (if possible)
  • Communicate your enthusiasm about The Acacia Group to other members, other students and to the faculty.

    Treasurer:

  • Work closely with the president and faculty advisor to create a yearly budget.
  • Plan fundraisers.
  • Keep other officers informed of the current budget.
  • Collect and deposit dues/conference fees, etc into our campus account.
  • Communicate your enthusiasm about The Acacia Group to other members, other students and to the faculty.

    Historian:

  • Attends as many events and meetings as possible.
  • Offer reviews of events and activities to be posted on our website
  • If possible provide pictures of the events
  • Keep a record of past conferences (themes, panels, speakers)

    Public Relations Officer:

  • Act as liaison between faculty, students and The Acacia Group.
  • Work with the secretary to create and distribute flyers
  • When possible make arrangements to briefly advertise the organization in graduate seminars.
  • Communicate your enthusiasm about The Acacia Group to other members, other students and to the faculty.

    Webguru:

  • Update and maintain the website.
  • Work closely with the secretary and public relations officers.
  • Communicate your enthusiasm about The Acacia Group to other members, other students and to the faculty.

    All officers will help plan the conference and graduation reception. Officers will be expected to preside over events in a "master of ceremonies" capacity.
